software.design.consulting

Modern software for systems your business can't afford to break.

CodeJump takes on the hard parts: aging applications that still run the business, databases that feed dozens of downstream systems, and engineering tools nobody else can maintain. We modernize them carefully, document everything, and leave you with software your team understands.

  • Legacy to .NET modernization
  • SQL Server & data platforms
  • Security & compliance hardening

Services

What we do

Senior engineering across the whole lifecycle, from the first look at a legacy codebase to a production rollout on a modern stack.

Legacy Modernization

We migrate VB6, classic ASP.NET Web Forms and .NET Framework applications to .NET 8+ and Blazor. Business rules and calculations are preserved line by line and verified against the original before anything is retired.

  • Codebase analysis & migration plans
  • Domain model extraction
  • Side-by-side parallel runs

Data Engineering & SQL Server

We design and tune SQL Server platforms that move data reliably at scale: ETL orchestration, snapshot distribution, index maintenance, and schema version control with Flyway and Redgate.

  • Stored procedure & query performance
  • SQL Agent job orchestration
  • Migration-based schema control

Custom Application Development

We build web applications that fit how your business actually works, including operations portals, booking and reservation systems, online auctions, and real-time dashboards.

  • Blazor, ASP.NET Core & Next.js
  • Payments, email & third-party APIs
  • Real-time updates with SignalR

Security & Compliance

We audit and harden applications that handle regulated or sensitive data. That covers credential handling, Active Directory and LDAP integration, PHI access controls, and readiness work for frameworks such as CMMC.

  • Application security reviews
  • AD / LDAP / Entra ID inventories
  • Secrets & password-storage remediation

Engineering & Scientific Software

We port and extend technical software for laboratories and engineering teams. Analysis engines, test-equipment data formats and charting are rebuilt with the math intact and the results traceable.

  • Numerical & signal analysis ports
  • Instrument file-format fidelity
  • Interactive charts & reports

Architecture & Documentation

Before we write code, we write down what the system actually does. You get architecture docs, business-rule inventories, runbooks and user guides that outlast any single developer.

  • System & process documentation
  • Business-rule discovery
  • Operations runbooks

Selected Work

Problems we've solved

Clients are kept confidential. These summaries describe the kind of work we do and the results we aim for.

Healthcare · Data Platform

Clinical data distribution for a healthcare network

We built operations and subscription-management portals for a SQL Server platform that distributes Epic Clarity data to more than 70 subscriber databases across a multi-server estate. The portals provide monitoring across servers with fault isolation, PHI-restriction safeguards, and full schema control under Flyway.

.NET 8 · Blazor · Dapper · SQL Server AlwaysOn · Flyway

Engineering · Modernization

EMC analysis suite: VB6 to Blazor

We ported a full electromagnetic-compatibility analysis application, covering radiated and conducted emissions, crosstalk and susceptibility models, from VB6 to Blazor Server. Every calculation was carried over faithfully, and the new version adds interactive charts, printable reports and SQL Server persistence.

C# · Blazor Server · Chart.js · Dapper

Laboratory · Security

Secure file-transfer portal rewrite

We replaced a Web Forms client/employee file-exchange portal with a modern Blazor application. The rewrite moved passwords from legacy encryption to modern hashing, added Microsoft Graph and Active Directory sync, and introduced templated notifications. It was part of a broader CMMC readiness effort.

.NET 9 · Blazor · Microsoft Graph · Entra ID

Tourism · Small Business

Reservation & booking platform

Modernizing a 100+ page reservation system for a guided-tour operator. The work covers seat-capacity rules, agent commissions, online payments and regulatory reporting. We documented everything first, then rebuilt on a clean domain model.

.NET 8 · Blazor · MudBlazor · ASP.NET Identity

E-commerce

Online auction site

Ongoing development and hosting support for a specialty online auction, including bidding and closing rules, automated notifications, and production operations on a managed VPS behind Cloudflare.

ASP.NET · SQL Server · SendGrid · Cloudflare

Fintech · Product

Real-time trading signals

We took a single-file prototype and turned it into a full-stack application with live market data, a configurable rule engine, candlestick charts with signal markers, and push notifications over SignalR.

ASP.NET Core · SignalR · Next.js · TypeScript

Approach

How we work

Modernization fails when teams guess at what the old system does. Our process is built so that doesn't happen.

  1. 01

    Discover

We read the code, the schema and the stored procedures. We inventory every page, report and business rule, and record open questions instead of making assumptions.

  2. 02

    Document

You get architecture notes, a migration plan and a business-rule catalog. You review and approve the plan before any production code is written.

  3. 03

    Build

We deliver in clean, phased increments that build without warnings. Read-only phases come first where risk is high, and quirks in the original behavior are preserved deliberately and marked.

  4. 04

    Verify & hand off

We run old and new side by side and compare outputs. Then we deliver runbooks, a developer guide and a user guide so your team owns the result.

Why CodeJump

A consultant who reads the stored procedures.

Many firms quote a rewrite without opening the legacy code. We start with it. That's how we find the capacity rule hidden in a SQL function, the time-zone hack that shifts every timestamp, and the hard-coded key that should have been rotated years ago, before they turn into production incidents.

  • Senior hands on the code. The person who scopes your project is the person who builds it.
  • Low-risk delivery. Phased releases, read-only first phases, and parallel runs against your live data.
  • Documented by default. Every engagement ends with documentation your next developer will thank you for.
  • Discreet. We're comfortable working with PHI, regulated data and production systems, and we treat them that way.
